When you have kids (and your immediate family decide to move 174km away from you) date nights are few and far between. So when the opportunity arises to be wearing something other than your Penny's hoodie after 7pm on a Friday night.... *insert over-excited emoji here*
Jamie and I had one of those impromptu date nights over the weekend, which was as overdue as tweezing my eyebrows/unibrow! I cannot tell you how much we needed that time together. Even though it ended with both of us passing out cold on the couch on our return (and waking up to a 5.30 alarm call called Sadie and exhaustion drool rolling down my chin) we were in such a happy place for the rest of the weekend.
Reconnecting with each other is so important and so necessary. It can be easy to lose touch in the conveyor belt that is day-to-day family life. Personally, I know I get so wrapped up in work, grinds, play time, bath time, etc, a day can go by when I have not even thrown Jamie a smile - enter ice queen!!! He is so much better than me -he will always make sure to put his arms around me as I'm making Lola's lunch or kiss my forehead before he leaves for work. Our time together on Friday night really refocused me and reminded me how I need to do the same. I need to stop and defrost. I forget how much I need it too.
In the words of Carrie Bradshaw - I got to thinking...
Date nights are key, and because it is not always possible to get out (due to shortage of babysitters, shortage of cash, or shortage of get-up-and-go), I don't think that should stop us! Why not do date night takeaway style - but a takeaway we won't regret in the morning.
With this in mind, I have decided to ruffle my brain cells and compile a list, a list to be drawn upon when we just need to touch base, no matter the shortage.
To take away please....
