I was never a frills and flounce kind of girl, but there has been no catwalk void of them lately. They are such a dramatic part of a dress or outfit, so I've always thought less is more when it comes to this trend . From what I can see, the key to making them work is by making them the focal point of the ensemble. They are a big trend for Spring/Summer ’17, and I have to admit, designers are actually doing them quite well now. They are mixing them with fun textures but still keeping them structured and simple.
There are lots of subtle choices out there that allow you to stay frilly, without becoming a Southern belle cake topper! So, in the spirit of summer, which is only two days away, I have rummaged through the internet to find you some of the most pretty and playful of these frills and ruffles for the summer wedding season ahead to suit all budgets.
Florals are always so popular when it comes to Spring/Summer weddings. Why not mix them with another of this year's dress trends.
If you like the classic feel, or colours scare you to the pit of your stomach, try these little black numbers.
We may not have the sunny weather here in Ireland, but that doesn't stop us shining in summer pastels. Here are some frill detail pastels with a bit of bounce.
I know how difficult it is to even want to dress up, not to mind stay on trend when you are pregnant. Here are a few options to make you feel fabulous with some fashion forward flounce, all from ASOS.
Not Just Dresses
I love when ladies go against the grain and opt for a trouser look for a wedding. Here are some striking options you'll be sure to stand out in.
When it comes to frills and ruffles- be bold, make a statement, but remember, don't overdo it ...
Dark wax is one of my favourite products to use from the Annie Sloan range. It can create such fabulous effects. Here is a short video on how to use and apply Annie Sloan's dark wax. Enjoy!
In my craft demos, I will be using a lot of Annie Sloan products, as I find them so easy to use, quick drying and there is no need for any prep work. The wax gives your piece durability. Here is a video to show you how to use clear wax which you will be using for most of the painted crafts in my demos.

What is the product?
Spotlight teeth whitening strips are an at home teeth whitening kit. There are 14 packets inside, which is two weeks supply. In each packet there are two strips - one for your top teeth and one for your bottom teeth. The strips are worn daily for one hour, and you do this for two weeks.
How does it work?
Spotlight teeth whitening strips are the only teeth whitening strips in Europe that contain hydrogen peroxide which is a teeth whitening agent. Hydrogen peroxide whitens our teeth by breaking down stains such as tea and red wine, as well as penetrating and brightening the top layer of enamel.
When ready to use, you tear open the packet, take out the strips and dry your teeth. Stick the bottom strip on first, then the top, and leave them on for one hour. After removing the strips, wash away any excess and repeat every day for two weeks.
Who made it?
Spotlight was created by two Irish dentists, Doctors Lisa and Vanessa Creaven in Quay Dental, Galway who really know their stuff!
My teeth have always been something I was never too confident about. I’d always seen and been tempted by all those Groupon offers of teeth whitening, but I was weary that one bargain session would lead into another ten before I got close to erasing the twenty years of tea I was advertising! So, I decided to try Spotlight with the aim of having a confident smile.. To be honest, I was expecting one of two things – hypersensitivity resulting in me not being able to use them, or, simply no change whatsoever. It ended up being quite the contrary.
From my very first application of the strips I was so surprised with how easy they were to use. There was even one day I popped into Tesco for a few bits with the strips on, they are so noninvasive. I was also concerned with my teeth being too sensitive to withstand them but this was not the case. Although I was aware there was something on my teeth, that was it, there were no sensitivity issues whatsoever.
When I took the strips off on day one, I honestly could not believe it. After only one hour my teeth were visibly whiter. My ‘before’ picture does have a yellowish tint to it naturally due to the lighting in my room, but my lack of pearliness is clear. The second image shows the difference in one hour after the first application. Quite impressive!
Needless to say I was excited to see the results after the two weeks. A fortnight later, it was our honeymoon, and as you can see I could not stop showing over my spotlight smile!
It is about three months now since I first used the strips and I am starting to see a slight loss of dazzle but still a lot better than what they were originally. Upon reading the FAQs online it says, “ the best way you can keep your teeth nice and white is to complete one full two week course, and then top them up every 3 months with generally 5 days worth.”
At €39.95 for the pack, Spotlight are a lot better value and easier to use than any other teeth whitening kits or methods I’ve seen. As well as that, the results are instant! As a top up of five days every three months is suggested, that means the second time you buy it, the strips will do for almost your next three top ups!
I have been raving about Spotlight teeth whitening strips since I discovered them, especially to anyone I know getting married soon. There is no better photo prop than a dazzling smile, so get wedding ready!. I’ve ordered my second box ordered already!
Spotlight is available online at www.spotlightwhitening.com,

When it comes to finding the perfect dress, I am actually glad that I did not have to make that decision myself. This search can be a daunting task for brides, especially those who are trying to source a dress that ‘breaks tradition.’ It was on this premise that Lilac Rose Bridal was established over four years ago by Donna Kennedy. Donna was a bride looking for something a bit out of the ordinary, something EXTRAordinary, and so – the treasure trove of loveliness that is Lilac Rose was born. Lilac Rose Bridal not only offers a strong range of eclectic and stunning wedding dresses, but they successfully strive to provide brides with a wonderful and memorable experience while shopping for that special dress. This is definitely something that I can vouch for personally.
Although Lilac Rose will always remain true to their eclectic designs, they have evolved and now cater for those looking for a more classic style also. Some of the designers and labels they stock are – Charlie Brear, Rosa Clara, Justin Alexander, Eliza Jane Howell, Agnes Bridal, Gemy Maalouf, and Lou Lou. The store also stocks a beautiful range of veils, headpieces, fur stoles and Rachel Simpson shoes (divine!). Not only is there a wide range of styles but sizes range from 4 – 34 and prices from €950 to €3500, so there is no style, shape or budget they do not cater for.
They have recently signed the stunning Ronald Joyce for their Limerick store, and San Patrick (by Pronovias) for their Kilkenny store. “We have big plans for both stores for the coming year,” Donna shared, “ to make our customers’ shipping experience more enjoyable and interactive, but that’s all I can say on that for now…” I’m sure you are just as excited as me to see what Lilac Rose has in the pipeline.
As part of my experience on 'Don’t Tell the Bride', I was taken dress shopping. I was over the moon when it turned out to be Lilac Rose Bridal. I had walked by the store so many times in Limerick and could not help but dream… Low and behold, there I was, standing in my dream store, in my dream dress while Jamie was elsewhere, twirling my actual wedding dress in a pot of blue dye! From that very first step inside, you are transfixed – everything in sight is so beautiful, striking and unique. Not only that, but the staff are so attentive and welcoming. You automatically know you are in the best hands. They not only want you to look your most fabulous, but they want you to feel it too, and this is manifested through their kind words and the five star treatment you are given. Lilac Rose Bridal are definitely a store to visit on the search for the perfect dress for you.

One of the most memorable moments of my own wedding day was the song I walked up the "aisle" to.
There are so many ways to bring your personality or add a bit surprise to your wedding day. Opting for a coloured dress may scare some brides to their very core, but I'm definitely an advocate for the different and a colour convert now. Here are some of my favourite coloured dresses I've come across online.
If you know anyone who was bold enough to try add a bit of colour, we would love to see. Please email your images to firstname.lastname@example.org and we would love to share them for you to inspire others.
As if seeing your 'ugly crying' face is not enough... this shocked face seemed to appear a few places also,. much to the joy of my self esteem! Following the big dress reveal and the pot of emotions which ensued,
I actually forgot what my initial reaction was to the blue dress until I saw the show myself. I DO know that I fell in love with every thread, every detail, and especially the colour once the initial shock was over. Of course the initial reaction is going to be shock, no matter what shape, style, or even colour it is, but this was something I knew in my heart that Jamie took time to choose, to decide on and to take a risk with. Looking past the shade, I could see that he thought about what I liked and would look my best in - the waistline, the shape, the back, the sleeves, the detail.
Of course going on a show as such, you know there will be elements you will not expect and that will be 'different' , but just like all things in life, it is up to you to see it in whatever light you choose. I admire and love Jamie for taking the risk to dye my dress. Looking back on my photos now, I know he made the right choice and I honestly cannot see myself in anything else. It just worked. He saw opportunity and he went with it, and the result, in my opinion (be it a tad biased) was amazing, and blue-tiful!
